Curtain color and lighting program in broiler production: II. carcass and parts yield and abdominal fat deposition R. Bras. Zootec.
Abreu,Valéria Maria Nascimento; Abreu,Paulo Giovanni de; Coldebella,Arlei; Jaenisch,Fátima Regina Ferreira; Paiva,Doralice Pedroso de.
The objective of the present study was to evaluate carcass and parts' yield, abdominal fat deposition and breast and foot pad blisters of broilers reared under two lighting programs (nearly continuous or intermittent) in broilers houses with yellow and blue curtains. The experiment was conducted between June, 2004 and May, 2005. Six flocks were sequentially housed in four 12 × 10 m broiler houses divided into 4 pens with 200 birds each. The litter was reused six times or until flock 6. A completely randomized design in a 6 × 2 × 2 factorial arrangement (flocks, lighting programs, curtains) with four replicates per treatment was applied. A total of 288 birds were evaluated for carcass yield. Curtain color did not affect carcass or parts' yield. The effect...

Dietary crude protein reduction on growth and carcass performance of 22 to 42-day-old broilers reared under different temperatures R. Bras. Zootec.
Oliveira,Will Pereira de; Oliveira,Rita Flávia Miranda de; Donzele,Juarez Lopes; Oliveira Neto,Adhemar Rodrigues de; Gomes,Paulo Cezar; Maia,Ana Paula de Assis; Campos,Paulo Henrique Reis Furtado; Gasparino,Eliane.
This study was conducted to verify the effects of dietary crude protein reduction on growth and carcass performance of 22-42-day-old broilers reared under different temperatures. Treatments were set up in a five by two factorial arrangement, with five crude protein levels (220, 210, 200, 190 and 184 g/kg) and two temperatures (21.6 and 32.2 ºC). Diets were isocaloric and essential amino acid-to-lysine ratio was maintained constant in all treatments. There was no interaction between crude protein reduction and environmental temperature for any of the parameters evaluated. Crude protein had no influence on feed intake. Nevertheless, weight gain and feed conversion ratio were linearly influenced by crude protein reduction. Worse performance was also observed...

Effect of strain, sex and age on carcass parameters of broilers - doi: 10.4025/actascianimsci.v35i1.13354 Animal Sciences
Fernandes, Jovanir Inês Müller; Universidade Federal do Paraná; Bortoluzzi, Cristiano; Universidade Federal do Paraná; Triques, Gustavo Eugenio; Universidade Federal do Paraná; Garcez Neto, Americo Fores; Universidade Federal do Paraná; Peiter, Daniela Cristina; Universidade Federal do Paraná.
A total of 1,080 one-day-old broiler chicks were used, distributed into a completely randomized design in a 6 x 2 x 4 factorial scheme, with six replications of 30 birds each (15 males and 15 females). Chicks were classified into six breeds (Cobb 500 Slow, Cobb Fast, Ross 308, Ross 508, Hybro Plus and Avian 48), male or female and four slaughter ages (43, 45, 46 and 49 days). Ten birds from each experimental unit (5 males and 5 females) were slaughtered to evaluate carcass yield and commercial cuts. Cobb 500 Slow males showed the maximum potential for weight gain at 47 days old, while the other breeds, between 33 and 35 days old, regardless of sex. Carcass and breast fillet yield showed significant differences, independent of breed, sex and slaughter age,...
